Silly Sally endorses FIT Kids Act!

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

New FIT Kids act is a winner!  Silly Sally highly recommends the new bill H.R. 3257 that has been proposed and will be presented to Congress.  As a certified K-12 physical education and health teacher, Sally Shaver aka Silly Sally has long questioned the lack of physical education requirements in the original No Child Left Behind legislation.  With a childhood obesity epidemic in full swing, children need quality, daily physical activity and schools need to put PE back into their required courses and help students learn about other healthy habits including nutrition.  This new bill could be nicknamed, “No Child Left On Their Behind.”

Iowa is one of the few states that requires some kind of PE at 50 minutes per week at the secondary level.   But even with this requirement, many students are still not getting the needed and recommended daily physical activity.  Sally also believes that PE teachers and schools should be held accountable for providing high-quality PE by following national benchmarks and standards created by NASPE.

The KangaKids FunBus is available to come to central Iowa preschools and daycare centers and provides quality physical education classes for young children.  Kids love to participate in the numerous activities including tumbling and gymnastics , beginning sports skills, creative movement and dance and even ride on the zipline.

Silly Sally has also created several products and programs to help children become more physically active and encourage healthy, active lifestyles.  She is in the process of creating her latest CD, “Get Moving with Silly Sally” which should be released this fall.  Check out Silly Sally’s website for more information on how you can purchase a CD or video or have Silly Sally visit your school or community to help kids learn about staying fit and healthy.
